CFEC in partnership with Dr. Cathy Compton-Lily is supporting a family-community initiative that involves the creation of bilingual soft-bound children's books that introduce children to the Cherokee language. The texts will have simple bilingual text (Cherokee and English) and a photo to introduce children to simple Cherokee words and phrases. The topics, photos, and Cherokee translations will be negotiated/co-created with assistance from a graduate student, Dr. Compton-Lilly, and tribal members. The project will involve scheduling and holding conversations with Cherokee tribal members while also collecting photos to illustrate the books. Our goal is to craft six to eight different books that can be disseminated online and in hard copy.
