Resources for Grandfamilies
We recognize that many households with children are headed by one or both grandparents. Grandfamilies may face special challenges engaging in their children’s learning and development in partnership with their child’s school.

Area Agencies on Aging (Some agencies pay for tutoring services, back to school supplies, purchasing clothes, pay for camps and after school care, and/or buy cap and gown for graduation)
CFEC’s work to support grandfamilies
The Carolina Family Engagement Center in partnership with Dr. Yanfeng Xu, assistant professor in UofSC’s College of Social Work, submitted and were granted funding through UofSC’s 2020 Racial Justice and Equity Research Fund. The project is entitled, Examining Black-White Disparities and Identifying Empowerment Solutions among Custodial Grandparent-Headed Families During COVID-19 in South Carolina: A Mixed-Methods Community-Based Study. The results of this study will be used to advocate for custodial grandparents, particularly grandparents of color, to increase resources and supports in South Carolina.
