Worlds of Words Publication

Worlds of Words (WOW): Center of Global Literacies and Literatures recognizes our lives have gone global. Knowledge of the world and un understanding of global perspectives have thus become a necessity, not a luxury. One important resource for building bridges across cultures is global children’s literature. Literature provides an opportunity for children to go beyond a tourist perspective of gaining surface-level information about another culture. Literature expands children’s life spaces and takes them outside the boundaries of their lives to other places, times, and ways of living to participate in alternative ways of being in the world.

WOW has a number of publications and resources on their site that are available for free and without membership to provide the widest access possible. One of those publication venues is WOW Stories a regular on-line peer-reviewed publication containing vignettes written by educators about children’s experiences reading and responding to literature. CFEC Teacher Partner María del Rocío Herron at Jackson Creek Elementary School and CFEC Specialist Dr. Julía Lopez-Robertson detail their chance meeting that turned into a fortuitous school partnership in their publication “Learning through Engagements with Multicultural and Global Literature”.
